Prophetic Ministry (Interpreting Your Tongues)
I remember hearing a lady tell me once, "You know, in my private prayer time I pray in tongues and then I interpret my own tongues."
I thought, "Fanatic! She's deceived, overemotional, getting carried away."
But the Lord was saying to me, "I want you to do that."
I said, "But Lord, that's a flaky thing. I mean, folks getting their own revelations? The Bible says that the gifts are given for the building up of the Body. If you are going to reveal something to me, surely it is for somebody else?"
The Lord said, "Are you not part of the Body?"
So I tried it. I prayed in tongues then interpreted, "Behold says the Lord, I am with you to lead you along the way." I thought, "Hey, that sounds pretty good." I prayed more tongues. "And you shall not be afraid, but you shall do exactly what I tell you to do, says the Lord. And I will take you by the hand and I will show you exactly which way to go."
Did I make that up? I do not have a clue, but I just began to do it. I began to pray in tongues and then pray in English whatever came to my mind.
Eventually it came to the place where I found that I would always pray in tongues when I was alone and then sometimes I would pray in English. I remembered an incident once from our family prayer meeting, where I prayed in tongues and somebody else then prayed in English. My late Dad who often understood my tongues in the Spirit, started to laugh and he said, "Do you know what? He just prayed in English what you prayed in tongues."
I began to realize that sometimes we are interpreting without even being aware of it, because when you pray in the Spirit, you are praying what the Spirit has inspired you. And when you pray in the Spirit in the natural language you are still praying what the Spirit has inspired you. I found that I could now pray in tongues and pray in English. And I understood what Paul was saying. He said, "I will pray with my spirit and I will pray with my understanding. I will sing with my spirit and I will sing with my understanding."
