LESSON 08: Focus your Vision
If you have a calling on your life, there are probably many things that you see in the church that you know MUST change. In fact it can get quite discouraging sometimes. Because it seems that all you see is the wrong. Where do you start? If you are prophetic, then you probably want to change everything. If you are apostolic, you want to dump it all and just start again.
But the way you think is so limited compared to the way that the Lord thinks. I know that there are many things that need to be changed. There are many leaders that have failed and there are many people who need a fresh touch from Jesus. Yet you cannot change all of this by yourself AND you cannot change it all in a day.
You need to stay focused on one thing at a time and come to the place of realizing that it is the Holy Spirit that will bring these changes. It is good to keep the greater vision in your mind of the direction you are heading in. But concentrate your efforts to the task that lies ahead of you today. Sure, the structures need to change and the way that things are done need to change, but the GREATEST change must come with your own heart.
If you are seeking God for a place to start, then start in your own home. Take a good look at your heart and see if it is ready to receive the plan and pattern that God has for you. Then prepare the people's hearts to receive the new pattern. Because you can have the perfect structure, profound revelation and a wonderful new way of doing things, but without the change of heart all of it is empty.
Paul says it so plainly:
1 Corinthians 13:2 And though I have prophetic [insight], and understand all the hidden things, and all the known things; and though I have absolute faith, so that I could remove mountains, and do not have [agape] love, I am nothing. (NKJV)
It does not matter if you have the right structure. It does not matter how many ministry offices you operate in. Without the power of love in your life and a changed heart in your chest, you will not get to see the glory that awaits you. Are you looking for revival? Change? The new thing that God has promised? Then get focused! Start with one thing at a time and always... let that change start with an other orientation.
Look at the needs and desires of others. See how you can be a blessing to encourage and motivate. When you step out with this attitude, then you will automatically displace the things that are out of order.
When your focus is on meeting the needs of God's people and not just on "your vision" or "your revelation" you will come to find that your original view was actually quite limited. So, if it seems that the Lord has pulled you out of sight and hidden you away, do not get frustrated. Use the time to be changed, then when you rise up, you will do so in the right timing and with the right vision.
